In loving memory of our friend Wendy
Wendy's Wish was created on November 16, 2016 in memory of our rescue's friend, Wendy Fisher, after she passed away on November 12, 2016. This fund is to help pet parents pay veterinary bills when an emergency happens and they need help. We know that this would be something Wendy would love because Wendy loved people & dogs & she would always pitch in & help in any way she could be of service. And now... This from our founder, Meli...
"13 years ago, I bought my very first home. The day I moved in, I met Wendy. She had invited me over for a glass of wine... back then, I didn't drink much but I went to be social. Since that day, we spoke almost every day & became good friends. Wendy was kind hearted & loving to all those around her. She suffered from a lung disease that was caused by something genetic & she eventually had a lung transplant. She fought very hard to keep her lungs as long as possible but eventually they were no longer letting her live. She battled through the transplant like a warrior. She got an additional 6 years of life until a fast growing cancer took her life a few days ago. I was going through her pics on Facebook to post this & I realized just how many good times we had together. Wendy was great at documenting things... me not so much, I tend to be lost in the moment. I am grateful for these images that she took so I can always look back & see all the places we visited together. We went on tons of rescue transports & rescue errands together. Wendy joined me on one of my long drives down to pick up puppies in North Carolina even. I would drag her with me everywhere because I knew getting her out would help her keep battling on & we had tso much fun together. Wendy was instrumental in getting several of our dogs adopted & she helped with our adoption events when she could. She was always trying to be positive for everyone around her & she had a knack of cheering up people with her shenanigans. Those shenanigans I will greatly miss & there is a massive hole in my heart after she has left us that no one will ever be able to fill. I would say that Wendy lived her life to the fullest that she could but I feel like she was too young to leave us. She loved all animals, children & had such a knack for gardening. Her flowers & gardens were undeniably envied by the most seasoned of professional gardeners. A self taught artist, Wendy painted house portraits as a side job & hobby & she donated some to our auctions. She had a fabulous decorating sense as well. Although after her transplant I ripped through her home ridding it of knick knacks that harbored dust because she wasn't to breath any dust in under doctors' orders. Needless to say, Wendy was not so happy about me getting rid of non functional items but I know she knew that I loved her & just wanted her to heal 100% without complications. I picked out my favorite photos to share with you here of Wendy, my fierce friend. My dear friend, I know you have picked up all my fur kidz at the bridge & carried them through to heaven & are looking over all of them for me. You were good like that. And I will leave all of you reading this with one last thought... for the 13 years that Wendy was my neighbor, she always put the outdoor light on for me when I would walk my dogs at night because I basically lived alone & was afraid to go out in the dark. Well, my friend, leave the light on for me up in heaven so I'm not afraid when I come home. I will forever miss you until I can finally see you again... you are with me in my being & I see your face & hear your voice in my mind & I have only that to treasure for now. I hope that we, Green Fur Kidz, can honor your memory of kind, loving & generous spirit through your namesake fund, Wendy's Wish... Love you for always."
